Job Title: PostgreSQL DBA

Location: FortMill, SC (Onsite)

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize our mission-critical PostgreSQL database environments. This role is pivotal in ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of our data infrastructure across development, test, and production environments. You will work closely with application development, infrastructure, and operations teams to troubleshoot complex issues, guide database migrations, and implement robust automation and disaster recovery strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Administration & Maintenance
• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL database servers and clusters across multiple environments (Dev, Test, QA, Production).
• Perform routine maintenance tasks including vacuuming, analyzing, and reindexing to ensure optimal database health.
• Manage database upgrades, patching, and version migrations, ensuring compatibility and minimal downtime.
• Administer database security, including role-based access control, user management, encryption, and compliance with data protection standards.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies for optimal response times.
• Conduct advanced query optimization, index tuning, and execution plan analysis.
• Perform locking analysis and deadlock troubleshooting to resolve contention issues.
• Implement capacity planning based on database growth patterns.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery
• Design, implement, and manage high-availability and replication solutions using tools such as streaming replication, Patroni, repmgr, or Pgpool-II.
• Develop and enforce comprehensive backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies using tools like pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL-G, and Barman to safeguard business-critical data.
• Manage failover strategies and ensure database clusters meet uptime SLAs.
• Cloud & Infrastructure Support
• Manage and support PostgreSQL instances in cloud environments, including AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud Platform Cloud SQL.
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like AWS CloudFormation for deploying and managing database infrastructure.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams on configuration, patching, and log analysis on Linux environments.
• Operational Excellence & Automation
• Own and manage Severity 1 and 2 incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and execute Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).
• Follow ITIL processes for Incident, Problem, Change, and Request Management.
• Identify and drive automation opportunities for routine DBA tasks using scripting languages like Shell and Python.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation and runbooks for database operations and incident resolution.
• Collaboration & Advisory
• Work closely with application teams to troubleshoot database issues, replication failures, and connectivity problems.
• Guide development teams on data modeling, schema design, and efficient SQL practices.
• Support data migrations, including from other database systems to PostgreSQL.
