Cybersecurity Software Engineer

Position Summary

Seeking a Cybersecurity Software Engineer to support secure product development within a highly regulated environment. This role combines offensive security, defensive security, and software engineering to identify vulnerabilities, mitigate risks, improve product security, and ensure compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with penetration testing, vulnerability management, secure software development practices, and regulatory-driven documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze penetration test results, assess threat severity, and collaborate with security and development teams to remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Perform penetration testing, vulnerability validation, fuzz testing, and security assessments to identify and mitigate cybersecurity risks.
  • Manage vulnerability scanning tools and maintain secure testing environments.
  • Reproduce, investigate, and resolve cybersecurity defects and customer-reported security issues.
  • Provide actionable remediation guidance and support secure product design and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation required for regulatory and compliance standards, including FDA, HIPAA, and ISO 13485.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, IT, quality, and product teams throughout the secure software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Create and maintain software requirements, design documentation, and source code.
  • Perform code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and software validation activities.
  • Investigate and implement software defect fixes and enhancement requests.
  • Estimate, track, and communicate progress for assigned engineering activities.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s degree with 4–10 years of relevant experience, Bachelor’s degree with 4–8 years of experience, Master’s degree with 2–6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline preferred.

Technical Experience

  • Strong programming experience in Python, Bash, C, and/or C++.
  • Hands-on experience with penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, and offensive/defensive security methodologies.
  • Experience with security tools such as Nessus, Metasploit, Burp Suite, AFL, Peach, or similar.
  • Knowledge of secure SDLC practices, vulnerability analysis, and exploit development concepts.
  • Experience with Linux systems and virtualized environments (VMware preferred).
  • Familiarity with software development tools for source control, requirements management, and defect tracking.
  • Experience supporting regulated industries such as healthcare, medical devices, life sciences, or other compliance-driven environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as OSCP, GPEN, CEH, or equivalent.
  • Experience with FDA, HIPAA, ISO 13485, or similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
