IT Project Manager – Custom Application Development & Re-Platforming
GENERAL SUMMARY
The IT Project Manager will lead the end-to-end delivery of custom-developed applications and application re-platforming initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with business objectives. This role bridges technical teams and stakeholders, managing scope, resources, risks, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Custom Application Development
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with business stakeholders and IT leadership.
- Develop detailed project plans, including requirements documentation, timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
- Manage project budgets and track expenditures against approved plans.
- Oversee software development lifecycle (SDLC) activities, from requirements gathering to deployment and post-implementation support.
- Coordinate with developers, QA, and operations teams to ensure technical quality and adherence to standards.
- Manage change requests and scope adjustments, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing work.
- Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical teams, translating business needs into technical solutions.
Application Re-Platforming
- Assess current applications for performance, scalability, security, and compliance needs.
- Plan and execute migration strategies, including data migration, system integration, and downtime minimization.
- Manage vendor and third-party resources for cloud, infrastructure, or platform services, if applicable.
- Coordinate with business units to ensure minimal operational impact during re-platforming.
- Monitor migration progress, resolve technical issues, and validate system performance post-migration.
- Document lessons learned and recommend process improvements for future projects.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead and mentor project teams, contractors, and vendors.
- Identify and mitigate risks (technical, operational, compliance) and develop contingency plans.
- Conduct regular progress reviews, status meetings, and post-mortems to improve delivery processes .
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry regulations, and security standards.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree required, masters preferred or 10+ years equivalent work experience.
- Certified Project Management is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid), cloud platforms, and application architecture.
- Proficiency in project planning, budgeting, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and resolve conflicts.
- Clear, persuasive communication skills for both technical and business audiences.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex technical and business challenges.
- Proven track record in managing custom application development and/or re-platforming projects, preferably in regulated or enterprise environments.
- Extensive skills with Project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, MS Project, DevOps, Jira, GitHub).
- Extensive computer skills in Microsoft suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
- Agile/Scrum frameworks for iterative delivery.
- Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines, cloud migration tools, and compliance management systems.
- Experience or familiarity with Palantir’s Foundry platform a plus but not required.
